Yulia Zhirova, Tallinn
Somatic movement with Yulia Zhirova in Tallinn
At Goyoga Tallinn she leads Nia 5 Stages in Russian and English. The hour is a movement class. It organises the body.
The five stages
The class uses five developmental movements: rolling, crawling on the belly, crawling on hands and knees, squatting, and walking. On her 2022 certificate the training is called Nia 5 Stages, Art of Self-Healing. Laurie Bass trained her in it on 17 November 2022, for 14.5 contact hours.
The patterns are simple. They belong to ordinary human development. Many adults have not used some of them since childhood. You choose the size of each move. The practice adapts to almost any range. High flexibility and dance experience are not required. The focus is comfort and the way the nervous system organises movement.
She taught her first group at 20. The same thread, movement that starts from the person, runs through about 25 years of her work.
What she uses in the class
Somatic floorwork and joint realignment
Floor patterns from Nia 5 Stages and FLOORplay: rolling, crawling, and other developmental moves on the floor, so the spine and the joints can organise. Knee pads are part of this work. It is movement practice for the spine and the joints.
Restorative somatics and yin for burnout
The slower, supported end of her somatic work, for people who are hollow, exhausted, or past the point of pushing. The pace is rest and a quieter nervous system.
Trauma-informed somatic movement
Movement that stays with comfort. She also meets people one to one.
Somatic nervous system regulation
This is the Nia 5 Stages class at Goyoga: five developmental movements, barefoot, in Russian and English. The class organises the body.
At the Goyoga studio
Guidance is in Russian and English. The class is barefoot. Knee pads are required because part of the work is on the floor. The studio provides them if you do not bring your own.
Book the class on the Goyoga schedule. One-to-one therapy is a different appointment. Contact Goyoga to ask about that.
